Five fugitives appear in court today after being detained in Shenzhen

Five of the 12 Hong Kong people appeared in court today after completing quarantine following their return two weeks before.

They completed their jail sentences in Shenzhen for an illegal border crossing with other three fugitives and were remanded back to Hong Kong in custody.

They were mentioned at Sha Tin Magistracy today. Cheung Chun-fu, Cheung Ming-yu and Yim Man-him were charged with conspiracy wound with intent and possession of an offensive weapon or other instruments fit for an unlawful purpose. The cases were adjourned to May 3 at Eastern Court.

Another fugitive Kok Tsz-lun faced the charge of an instrument fit for an unlawful purpose and intent to use for any unlawful purpose. The court adjourned his case to May 5 at Tuen Mun Magistracy.

Wong Wai-yin was charged with making explosives. The case was also adjourned to May 3 at the Fanling Magistracy.

The five will remain in custody until the next hearing and were not required to enter pleas or apply for bail.

In December, ten of the 12 fugitives received sentences ranging from seven months to three years by a Shenzhen court. Two minors returned to Hong Kong, where they may face further charges.

Other 20 individuals were arrested for allegedly aiding the escape by Hong Kong police.
