Expert panel finds no link between Sinovac shot and three suspected serious adverse event following vaccination

The death of a 55-year-old woman and the hospitalization of two others who received Sinovac shots had no direct link to their coronavirus vaccination, an expert panel said on Monday after reviewing preliminary postmortem results.

Ivan Hung Fan-ngai, the convener of the committee assessing clinical events related to vaccines in Hong Kong, said the chronically ill woman, 55, very likely died of heart disease, which caused myocardial infarction.

“As for the 80-year-old man who is currently hospitalized at the intensive care unit, initial diagnosis shows that he is suffering from acute coronary syndrome,” said Hung.

He also said the man is diabetic and is suffering from hypertension and atherosclerosis.

Health experts also failed to find a direct link between the vaccination and the 72-year-old woman who is currently hospitalized at the intensive care unit. The panel said the woman suffered from diabetes, hypertension and hyperlipidemia.

“The reason for the worsening of the woman’s condition might due to the woman not injecting her insulin regularly,” the panel added.

Meanwhile, referring to the 71-year-old man who received his Sinovac jab last Wednesday and died in the early hours today, the panel said they have yet to receive sufficient reports and data to conclude the cause of the patient’s death.
