EDB slammed the media over ungrounded allegations towards national security education

The Education Bureau said ungrounded allegations and misunderstandings towards the implementation of national security education in the local school curriculum have been found in the media, which the bureau is obliged to clarify.

It is legitimate for the Government to implement national security education in Hong Kong, adding that such education is also the duty of schools, which is a part of national education and should be fostered progressively from a young age, according to the bureau.

“Schools should clearly point out that safeguarding national security is the responsibility of all nationals and that there is no room for debate or compromise,” it added.

The bureau also criticized people for having a double standard when accepting national security education in other countries, but not in Hong Kong.
