Disney has canceled plans to build a new campus in Florida worth almost $1 billion that was set to employ over 2,000 people, according to Disney parks chief, Josh D'Amaro.
The company cited changing business conditions as the reason for its decision to halt construction on the Lake Nona site, which would have housed Walt Disney Imagineering and the Disney Parks, Experiences and Products division.
The move came amid an ongoing legal battle with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and follows struggles to relocate Imagineers to the new campus.
The state's political climate has also contributed to uncertainty over Disney's investment in the region, as DeSantis moved to strip the company of its self-governing power over Walt Disney World in Orlando after CEO Bob Chapek criticized proposed legislation.
Despite the setback, Disney still plans to invest $17 billion in the area and create more than 13,000 jobs over the next ten years.
