Designated taxis set to take inbound travelers to quarantine hotels

Hong Kong government has enhanced its free point-to-point transportation service at the airport, and at the same time added a fleet of 100 self-paid cabs for inbound travelers to travel to their quarantine hotels with a shorter journey time.

This came after the demand for point-to-point transport services from Hong Kong International Airport to designated quarantine hotels is on the rise with an increasing number of people arriving in Hong Kong from overseas.

As the number of quarantine hotels has doubled to nearly 70 in the past four months, the Health Bureau increased the number of routes of the free designated transport service from HKIA to 18 in early July. Each of them covers three to five hotels with the traveling time of each trip being under two hours.

Besides, clear signages showing the routes as well as the destinations of hotels were placed in the Arrival Hall. The operator has also increased its manpower to assist travelers waiting for coaches and will explore the use of information technology to enhance the overall transport service.

Separately, the taxi trade has arranged 100 taxis to provide transport services for inbound travelers to travel from the airport to their quarantine hotels on a trial basis starting Monday today.

To use the self-paid taxi service, passengers will have to pay the metered fares and any additional charges applicable, including tunnel tolls and luggage fees.

Taxi drivers have to display the fare conversion tables issued by the Transport Department in the vehicle if the taximeters have yet to be adjusted to display the new fares which have taken effect from July 17. Passengers have to pay the new fares according to the conversion tables.

These taxis operate from 8am to 2am. Those who opt to go to quarantine hotels by taxis at their own expense should inform the staff at the Arrival Hall after completing immigration procedures and baggage claims. They should go to the designated area for waiting and boarding the taxis as instructed.

Quarantine hotel taxis only provide services from the airport to designated quarantine hotels. They will not transport passengers to other places nor pick up other passengers.

Specific labels will be affixed at a prominent location of the taxis for public identification. For the anti-epidemic purpose, inbound persons must use the back seats of the taxis and the front passenger seat of the taxis will not carry passengers.

Meanwhile, about 10 designated quarantine hotels provide self-paid limousine service. Travelers can contact their hotels in advance for the service.

The government added that drivers providing such services must wear protective equipment, including masks and protective gowns, and fully clean and disinfect the compartments upon completion of every single journey.
