Customs seized HK$7.6m in illegal cigarettes

Hong Kong Customs yesterday seized a batch of suspected illicit cigarettes at the Kwai Chung Customhouse Cargo Examination Compound, confiscating about 2.8 million suspected illicit cigarettes with an estimated market value of about HK$7.6 million.

The batch of illegal cigarettes carries a duty potential of about HK$5.3 million.

Customs said they have selected the seaborne transshipment container arriving from Indonesia and destined for Australia for inspection through risk assessment, uncovering the batch of suspected illicit cigarettes in it.
