Ballots for nearly 9,000 flats sold under the Home Ownership Scheme, including those with harbor views in North Point, were drawn yesterday, with the picking of the flats to happen by the year-end.
The Housing Authority received around 252,000 applications for the 8,926 flats, which meant a 28-to-one ratio this year, as compared to a 32-to-one oversubscription last year for 7,047 flats.
The ballots drawn for the scheme saw priority for those with application numbers ending with 00, 47, 08, 11, 29, 16, 09, 72, 64 and 36.
A spokesman said flat selection and issuance of approval letters are to start from the fourth quarter.
Of the 8,926 units up for grabs this year - the biggest sale exercise since the scheme restarted in 2011 - the crown jewel is Kei Wah Court in North Point, which offers seaview flats at a rare prime site next to the ferry pier and close to the MTR station.
Other options include Kai Yan Court in Kai Tak, Kwun Shan Court in Ma Tau Kok, On Sau Court in Kwun Tong, Chiu Ming Court in Tseung Kwan O, Yu Tak Court in Sha Tin and Yu Nga Court in Tung Chung.
The flats will be sold at 51 percent of the assessed market value, which is expected to be between HK$1.24 million and HK$5.31 million.
Authority member Anthony Chiu Kwok-wai said housing policies are rolled out to meet public demand and believed there won't be major changes when John Lee Ka-chiu becomes chief executive.
As such, Chiu, also executive director of the Federation of Public Housing Estates, expects public housing levels to remain similar in the years to come.
"As some of the administrative processes have been postponed due to the pandemic, I think successful applicants will only get to choose their flats in the final quarter, therefore I think next year's scheme will be rolled out mid-next year the earliest," he said.
Chiu said he expects projects at Kai Tak and Anderson Road in Sau Mau Ping to be rolled out next year, while some projects in Tuen Mun and Tung Chung will also be included as they will be completed in a similar time frame.
"Although some of the projects are not located in urban areas, the transport infrastructure is quite good," he added.
