Couple plunges to death in Kennedy Town, lands on taxi and school bus

A man and a woman, both middle-aged, jumped to their deaths in Kennedy Town on Tuesday afternoon, with one victim landing on a passing taxi and another on a school bus.

The incident occurred about 4.30pm as the duo jumped off the rooftop of Luen Wai Apartment on Belcher's Street.

One of the victims crushed the trunk of the taxi while another cracked the windshield and sank the right-hand side of the school bus filled with kids after the fall. Crying kids frightened by the sudden collision were comforted and later picked up by parents.

The two were pronounced dead at the scene as paramedics arrived. The area with the couple's stuff scattered across the ground was cordoned off by police for an investigation.

It was understood that the man was surnamed Poon and aged 41, while the woman was surnamed Tang and aged 53. They were married and they didn't live at that building.

Officers later found two handbags, two empty beer cans and the suicide notes left behind by the duo upon reaching the rooftop. They believed the two committed suicide over debt issues after preliminary investigation.

Police are now contacting the victims' family members for more information.
