More than 1.55 million people have registered for the electronic consumption voucher scheme in the first six hours since online registration opened this morning.
The number included around 1.3 million people who have registered last year’s Cash Payout Scheme authenticated their identity by answering security questions.
The others used the government's iAM Smart app for authentiation.
Some citizens complained that they had to wait for an hour to enter the iAM Smart system.
The government said there is no need for citizens to rush to finish the registration in these two days. They would all be able to get the first phase of electronic vouchers on August 1 as long as the registration is completed on or before July 17.
Instead of online registration, citizens can also submit paper registration forms along with a copy of their Hong Kong identity cards in the designated drop box at any post offices or designated bank branches.
Four electronic payment platforms have been designated for citizens to receive their vouchers, including AlipayHK, Octopus, Tap & Go and WeChat Pay HK.
Around 6,000 people queued to register Tap & Go accounst yesterday and some waited 19 minutes to enter the app.
Citizens each have their own preference on which platform to register.
Amy Wu, a 45-year-old office lady, said she will choose Tap & Go to collect the electronic vouchers. As she wants to use the vouchers to buy electronic devices like phone and TV, it will be easier for her to use Tap & Go in those electronics shops.
“I will ask my children to help me for registration as I am not really sure what kind of platform the government provides,” a 76-year-old retired woman surnamed Cheung said.
Cheung said she will probably collect the vouchers in Octopus card as she will mainly use it to buy daily necessities in supermarkets.
Cathy Wong, a 30-year-old editor said she also has to help her 68-year-old father to do the registration as it is a bit difficult for the elderly to use the online system, because there are several authentication steps to go through during the registration.
