A burglar broke into homes on Tai Hang Road early yesterday, and one of the attempted burglaries took place at an apartment that belongs to singer-actor Aaron Kwok Fu-shing.

A source said Kwok, who was asleep at that time, did not lose anything.

A security guard reported to the police at 5.35am that the door and window of a unit on the first floor of Carrie Garden had been forced open.

Preliminary investigations indicated the burglar climbed up a water pipe onto the first-floor balcony, then got into the apartment via a window.

A foreign domestic helper happened upon him and he skedaddled out of the place.

Two other attempted break-ins are suspected, one of which was on Kwok's home.

Officers said HK$500 in cash was taken from one of the homes, while Kwok and household in the third unit did not lose anything.

A man in a black short-sleeved top, black trousers and a black cap is being sought.

Kwok, 56 , his 35-year-old wife Moka Fang Yuan and their two daughters had been living in a large flat with a rooftop on the seventh floor.

As his 3,700-square-foor place is being renovated, Kwok purchased a flat on the first floor to house his family and his in-laws. His father-in-law is assisting in the probe.

His manager said it was not Kwok's flat that had been burgled, adding "Today's news report about a burglary in a flat is not actually owned by Aaron's family but a flat on the same floor next door."

The Tai Hang news comes as suspected burglars at a three-story tenement building in Yau Ma Tei had a better night of it, making off with HK$800,000 worth of jewelry and electrical appliances from several units in the 562 Canton Road building.
