Chip Tsao takes a break in UK

Writer and radio host Chip Tsao, commonly known by his pen name To Kit, is “taking a break” in the United Kingdom.

He said he still plans to return as the host of Commercial Radio program Summit, while others are hosting the program on his behalf in the meantime.

Tsao wrote in a Facebook post today (Thursday) that he arrived in Oxford. He painted the scenery there, and had his picture taken by a Pakistani photographer.

The writer said he planned to take a vacation in the UK and will return to Hong Kong afterwards. He also encouraged Hongkongers to persevere as the city faces difficult times.

Tsao is famous for his critical views on local and international affairs. His pinned post on Facebook criticized mainland authorities' efforts to crack down on “sissy” male idols. Many of his other posts criticized US president Joe Biden.

He also said that he pre-recorded several episodes of his radio show, and stressed that he would return to host the program.

Before Tsao's departure, many media veterans have done the same, though not for a vacation but for emigration.

Sam Ng, a host of the suspended current affairs satire Headliner, revealed that he had emigrated to the UK last week. His co-host, Tsang Chi-ho, also moved to Taiwan this July.

Simon Shen Xuhui, an international affairs scholar, also announced that he would be staying in Taiwan to be an associate professor earlier this month.
