Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu led representatives of Hong Kong's economy and trade industry to meet with the local business veterans in Bangkok in the hope of attracting Thai brains.
Lee led a delegation of more than 20 representatives of Hong Kong's business industry to meet with the Chinese Ambassador to Thailand, Han Zhiqiang on Sunday.
Afterwards, the delegation visited Thai business corporations, namely Charoen Pokphand Group Company Limited and AMATA Corporation Public Company Limited, to understand the local business situation and industrial development.
Lee introduced the latest policy measures to attract businesses and talents to Hong Kong to both corporations and encouraged different Thai corporations to come to Hong Kong for further development and to increase investments and trade.
In a post on his Facebook on Sunday, Lee expressed expectations for attracting businesses and talents to Hong Kong with the support of Thai business leaders.
He said that as the freest economy in the world, Hong Kong has maintained an efficient, free, open and fair business environment which facilitated foreign businesses and companies to operate, making it easy for consumers to enjoy imported goods from all around the world.
He also posted a picture of himself having breakfast at a Thai restaurant with three colleagues of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Bangkok, along with the Secretary for Commerce, Economic Development, Algernon Yau Ying-wah, Director of the Chief Executive's Office, Carol Yip Man-kuen.
Lee added that he had discussed with the Thai officials plans to set up the Dedicated Teams for Attracting Businesses and Talents, unveiled in his Policy Address this year, with a hope to "tell Hong Kong's good stories and attract talents and businesses to the city".
Lee will conclude his four-day visit to Thailand and return to Hong Kong this evening.
