The Cabinet Office is searching for a £60,000-a-year photographer to help boost the Government’s image.
A job advertisement posted this week looks to hire a ‘confident and determined’ photographer who will ‘promote the work of ministers and the wider government visually’.
It states that ‘no two days will ever be the same’ for the ‘highly motivated’ Whitehall-based employee who will earn between £54,700 and £60,635 annually.
It comes as Boris Johnson’s Cabinet is criticised for making a number of controversial U-turns during the coronavirus crisis.
Labour had overtaken the Tories in the polls but the two parties now remain neck-and-neck, according to the latest Opinium poll.
The photographer role involves out-of-hours work and domestic and overseas travel.
The advert states the right individual will ‘require a high level of tenacity, confidence and determination combined with a good news sense, a high degree of political awareness and exceptional relationship management skills’.
They need to be ‘comfortable working autonomously in a high-pressure environment’, as they work across different departments.
The advert says: ‘No two days will ever be the same in this role. One day you may accompany a cabinet minister on an international visit, working closely [with] press officers across Whitehall to deliver a series of coordinated announcements, and the next you will be working in the Cabinet Office producing innovative visual content.’
The prime minister already has his own personal photographer, Andrew Parsons, who works at the taxpayer’s expense.
A government spokesperson told The Guardian: ‘We are recruiting an experienced photographer to capture and share the government’s work through engaging visual content.
‘This post will work across departments and play a leading role in upskilling the government’s digital communications professionals.’
