Bar Association probing lawyers linked to fund facing national security claims

The Hong Kong Bar Association has confirmed on Tuesday it received a complaint from the police national security unit over suspected lawyers’ misconduct in connection with a defunct protester relief fund.

This came after the Law Society of Hong Kong said in a press conference yesterday that they are also looking into an allegation by the unit that a number of lawyers have committed professional misconduct.

The association said today that the police made a complaint after looking into a case related to the now-defunct 612 Humanitarian Relief Fund that raised money for the legal and medical fees of anti-government protesters.

However, the professional body refused to disclose any details, saying the investigation must be kept confidential before its completion.
