Avoid bringing toddlers to indoor places with unmasked people, says expert

An Infectious disease expert said on Friday that parents should avoid bringing toddlers to indoor places with unmasked people as the city combats the epidemic rebound.

Speaking on a radio program this morning, University of Hong Kong microbiologist Ho Pak-leung said he understood that many parents in Hong Kong wanted their kids to be inoculated with the child version of the BioNTech shot, which is one-tenth the adult dosage.

He said parents who decided to wait for the vaccine should raise their anti-epidemic awareness, and avoid bringing their children to high-risk places during the wait.

“As for those who brought their kids to receive the Sinovac jab, they must complete their three-dose vaccination to acquire a sufficient immune response,” said Ho.

Meanwhile, the health expert said he agreed with the Hospital Authority’s arrangement in letting recovered senior patients back to the care homes after they achieved a CT value of more or equal to 30.

However, Ho noted that health authorities must continue to strengthen their explanatory and publicity work so that people could understand the arrangement.
