ARAP: no degree of toxicity on shrimp found on three beaches in Coclé

Given the large number of shrimp found by residents on the beaches of Río Hato, Farallón and Santa Clara in the province of Coclé, the Panama Aquatic Resources Authority (ARAP) reported that this event is related to a rare phenomenon.

ARAP explained that in the tests applied to the shrimp, no degree of toxicity was found and it will correspond to the Ministry of Health (Minsa) request to determine if it is suitable to be consumed or marketed for the time that has elapsed in which they were collected.

After the complaints of the residents about the existence of thousands of shrimp on these beaches, Anayka Mok, regional director stated that the staff of the Regional Directorate of the Arap in Coclé mobilized yesterday, Sunday, with the technicians from the Enrique Enseñat Experimental Station who carried out the water and shrimp samples on site to determine their origin and conditions.

According to the director of Research and Development of the Arap, Darío López, the abundance of this species of shrimp has grown in coastal areas due to environmental conditions and, previously, this phenomenon also occurred in Boca Parita and what has happened now It has nothing to do with the Red Tide.

The director of the ARAP, Flor Torrijos, indicated that according to what they could observe, through the Satellite Monitoring Center, that no boat has released this product into the sea for fishing and indicated that Minsa personnel are already in the area.
