Activist Andy Li whereabouts unknown

Hong Kong activist Andy Li Yu-hin is thought to be remanded in custody by Hong Kong authorities but the family members of Li said they were told by the authorities that they have no information regarding Li’s whereabouts.

The 30-year-old Li and seven other fugitives were handed over by authorities at Shenzhen Bay Port on Monday after completing their seven-month sentences for illegally crossing Chinese waters in an attempt to flee to Taiwan.

Li’s family members said the Correctional Services Department told them Andy Li Yu-hin could not be found in their system, while the police said they were unsure where Li is currently located.

The family members urged the Security Bureau to locate Li as soon as possible, allowing them to look after Li’s welfare while he is in custody.

Of the eight fugitives handed over by Shenzhen authorities, seven, apart from Li, were confirmed to have been transferred to either the Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre or the Pik Uk Prison.

The CSD said later in the day that they refused to comment on individual cases.

But it said the department would ask all new detainees if they need assistance in informing their family members and friends of the detention center they stay.

“If a detainee refuses to disclose his whereabouts to others, the CSD will handle the case in accordance with his wishes. The detainee can later request such arrangement again or send letters to his family by himself,” the department said.
