4.9 Magnitude Earthquake Felt In BVI

Preliminary reports indicate that a 4.9 magnitude earthquake, located at Latitude:17.936 and Longitude:-65.29 at a depth of 1 kilometre, was felt in the British Virgin Islands today, October 8.

The Department of Disaster Management informed that this occurred at approximately 2.28 pm, according to an initial report from the Puerto Rico Seismic Network.

“There are no tsunami advisories, watches or warnings with this earthquake,” the DDM said.

Nonetheless, the DDM reminded residents that “…earthquakes can occur at any time with no warning, and therefore it is important to be ready.”
