32 months for burglar who 'mounted' model

A 38-year-old male accountant who "mounted" a female victim during a robbery in Ma On Shan was sentenced to 32 months behind bars by the district court.

Siu Wai sneaked into the flat while the victim was asleep shortly after midnight last April 23.

He held the woman by her neck and stuffed her mouth with a blanket when she screamed.

The woman was then pushed to a corner of the bed and she felt Sui feeling her thighs and saw him unbutton his shorts and expose his underwear.

Siu had pleaded guilty to one count of assault with an intention to rob.

Judge Clement Lee Hing-nin said Sui crime was premeditated and had a severe impact on his victim's physical and psychological health.

Lee said Siu used violence causing scratch marks on the victim's face and neck, with a property damage of about HK$650.

He said she suffered from depression and post-traumatic disorder due to the attack, adding that she has to undergo psychotherapy.

Lee said she had to get friends to coax her to sleep, but still had trouble sleeping and often had nightmares.

In addition, her appetite deteriorated causing her to lose nearly 30 pounds and suffer scars near her mouth, which affected her modeling career.

Lee added that Siu had seven criminal convictions from 2002 to 2018, with six of them involving dishonesty.

Taking into account the circumstances of the offense and Siu's background, Lee said imprisonment was "the only appropriate option."

Siu's sentence was initially set at four years, but was reduced since he pleaded guilty.
